Bitumen 50/70 — A Parallel Global Standard
One step harder than 60/70, specified as the default in several national codes.
Bitumen 50/70 is one step harder than the global-standard 60/70, and is itself the default specification in a number of national road standards — it isn’t a niche substitute grade so much as a parallel standard used in different regulatory frameworks. The tighter penetration band gives it marginally better resistance to rutting than 60/70 at a small cost to low-temperature flexibility, a trade-off some road authorities consider a better fit for their typical climate and traffic profile.
