Bitumen 80/100 moves further into soft-grade territory than 70/100, prioritizing workability and low-temperature flexibility over high-temperature stiffness. The wider penetration band and lower softening point make it noticeably easier to spray, mix, and compact at lower temperatures — a practical advantage in cold-climate construction seasons — but it will show measurable softening under sustained heat that harder grades wouldn’t. This is why it rarely appears in hot-climate specifications and instead concentrates in colder regions and applications built around spraying rather than dense-graded paving.
